MEET SHARON

Arvada City Council At-Large

The Issues

Responsible growth to assure Arvada does not outgrow its resources, which includes city employees. Compassionately and sensibly addressing homelessness. Increasing business and employment opportunities in Arvada. Crime prevention and maintaining a safe community. Increasing attainable and equitable housing. Childcare options for working parents.

These are issues that are important to Arvadans and important to Sharon. This is why she is campaigning for the At-Large seat on the Arvada City Council. Sharon recognizes that Arvada is facing the same issues as many cities across the country. As Arvada is woven into the fabric of the Front Range, it’s important to address the issues in a comprehensive way that benefits the entire community.

Sharon is proud to be the daughter of a US Air Force Veteran

Her father was a decorated veteran who served the country in Korea and Vietnam. She credits her mother, who was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for lighting her fire for education and curiosity for learning.

After graduating from high school, Sharon came to Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University, studying engineering on an Air Force-dependent scholarship. Afterwards, she moved to the Denver area to begin her career.

Sharon moved to Arvada in 2004 after marrying her husband, Rudy.

Since then, she has been busy in Arvada having been appointed by City Council to serve on the Citizen Capital Improvement Projects Committee, Arvada Park Advisory Committee, Arvada Charter Review Committee, and is currently serving on the Arvada Golf Advisory Committee. She has also participated in the Arvada Police Citizen Academy.

These experiences, working alongside Arvada staff and community members, have prepared Sharon for a seat on City Council.

Sharon has over 25 years of local government and special district experience

Sharon has worked for the cities of Aurora, Federal Heights, City and County of Denver, and Metro Water Recovery (formerly Metro Wastewater Reclamation District).

Sharon has spent her career in occupations that benefit Colorado – air quality, water quality, and workplace safety. Sharon served the community in ways that support and improve the overall environment and health of the front range communities.  Understanding and respecting the framework of local governments is the strength that Sharon will bring to Arvada City Council.

Emergency Management

To prepare to be the Safety Coordinator for the Denver Emergency Operations Center (EOC), Sharon was required to complete Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) trainings. She used the knowledge gained in these trainings to prepare and implement Emergency Response Plans, Emergency Safety Plans, and develop trainings.

Sharon is an avid distance runner…you may have seen her running through your neighborhood over the years!

“It’s the best way to get to know your community!”

From Highway 93 to Sheridan Blvd and routes north and south, she’s covered quite a few miles throughout the city. Sharon retired from the City and county of Denver in May 2022. This affords her to spend her time with volunteer groups such as the Arvada Jefferson Kiwanis and Elks Lodge 2278.
